ICELAND SLOWLY BEING TORN APART BY CONSTANT EARTHQUAKES

In an average week Iceland’s national monitoring seismic network detects around 500 earthquakes. If one of the volcanoes is hit by an earthquake swarm this number can be even higher.

Editorial Comment

Iceland gets a lot of its energy from geothermal sources which, I believe, involves drilling into the earth’s crust. What I find interesting is that when earthquakes occur around fracking sites, the fracking is blamed. But when earthquakes occur around geothermal energy extraction, that’s not even mentioned as a possible contributing factor. - BK
